Afghanistan Announces T20 World Cup 2024 Squad
Afghanistan has announced its 15-player squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled to take place in the West Indies and the USA in June. Rashid Khan will lead the team, and there are some new faces in the lineup compared to the 2022 edition. Karim Janat, Mohammad Ishaq, and Noor Ahmad have all earned spots in the squad.
However, Hashmatullah Shahidi, who led Afghanistan in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, is not included in the squad. His last T20I appearance was in 2022. Youngster Nangyal Kharoti, who impressed in his international debut against Ireland earlier this year, has secured a place in the team. Kharoti showcased his talent with five wickets in three matches and an economy rate of just 5.90.
Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Ishaq, who previously represented Afghanistan in the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cups in 2020 and 2022, has also been selected.
Rashid Khan will lead the spin department, supported by Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Nangyal Kharoti, and veteran Mohammad Nabi. The fast-bowling lineup comprises Naveen-ul-Haq, Fareed Ahmad, and Fazalhaq Farooq, who have retained their spots from previous tournaments.
